The Florida State Parks Foundation, founded in 1993 as Friends of Florida State Parks and    renamed in 2018, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to support and help sustain the Florida Park Service, its 175 award-winning parks and trails, local Friends groups and more than 20,000 park volunteers.

It does this through programs that preserve and protect state parks, educate visitors about the value of state parks, encourage community engagement and active use of state parks, and advocacy. The volunteer Board of Directors represents private and public sectors as well as local and statewide interests.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Florida State Parks Foundation is seeking a self-motivated, dynamic and experienced Director of Development. Established in 1993, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit citizen support organization (CSO) whose mission is to preserve, protect, sustain and grow Florida’s award-winning state parks.

To serve its mission the Foundation works diligently to educate the people of Florida and its elected officials as to the unique beauty and irreplaceable value of its state park system. The Foundation raises funds to further the mission and work of the Florida Park Service and to improve visitor enjoyment of Florida’s state parks.

The Director of Development position collaborates with staff to identify new sources of funding in an effort to continue to grow the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. The Director of Development is designated as a full-time employee of the Foundation, with an Employee Agreement, and performs the duties below.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches and identifies new corporate and foundation funding opportunities for Florida Park Service needs
  • Prepares high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications and supporting documents
  • Translates capital, resource and conservation needs into compelling cases for donor support, integrating funding prospect’s interests into the materials
  • Responsible for writing and editing letters, stewardship and grant reports, and donor communication materials such as project grant reports and general donor outreach
  • Maintains knowledge of Florida Park Service funding needs and key issues
  • Furnishes prospective funders with supporting documents
  • Develops and tracks funding proposals and application processes
  • Ensures compliance with Foundation policies and procedures, and external (donors/legal/IRS) requirements
  • Collaborates with Chief Executive Officer on overall fundraising strategy of the Foundation, including individual giving, planned giving, digital strategy and capital campaigns
  • Assists Chief Executive Officer in any other tasks needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Experience: 5+ years grant writing experience
Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience in conservation/environmental writing, proposal writing, editing
  • Commitment to environmental and conservation goals
  • Proficient with standard software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Experience working with corporate, foundation and institutional funders in Florida
  • Strong organization skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to work well on teams in a collaborative, positive manner to further the goals of the Foundation
  • Ability to meet deadlines

TERMS

The Director of Development will have an Employment Agreement that includes, but is not limited to the following:

  •   The Director of Development reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer
  • A nondisclosure agreement, and acknowledgement that all material developed, managed, or promoted belongs to the Foundation
  • Applicant must be able to travel to attend meetings and conduct Foundation business
  • Applicant must be a US citizen and a resident of the state of Florida
  • Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience
  • The Foundation is based in Tallahassee, but this position is remote
