Biography
Nikesh Patel serves as city engineer for the City of Sarasota, where he provides executive leadership for all infrastructure programs within public rights-of-way. He has over 20 years of experience in the infrastructure industry and is a licensed professional engineer, general contractor, and real estate broker.
Nikesh holds a Master of Science in engineering management and dual bachelor’s degrees in civil and mechanical engineering. He is also a professional traffic operations engineer (PTOE), certified planner (AICP), and certified public manager (CPM).
Prior to joining the City of Sarasota, Nikesh worked at the Florida Department of Transportation for over 17 years, where he was responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining transportation infrastructure programs. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the America’s Transportation Award, the National Engineering Excellence Award, the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association National Best Restored Beach Award, and the Florida Transportation Builder Association Best Bridge Award.
Originally from Zambia, Africa, Nikesh moved to Florida in 1997. He is married and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys attending local events and farmer's markets and spending time with his family at the beach. The Patels have a small farm where they rescue animals.
